An Unforgettable Weekend at Goodwood

9 - 11th September. A spectacular weekend for Mike Whitaker at the prestigious Goodwood Revival. Mike out qualified both Tiff Needell (Ex. Formula One Driver) and Rob Huff (Professional Touring Car Champion), putting his Lola T70 MKII on Pole with fastest lap time of 1:22.690 (still with more time to go!) The race was scheduled for 4:15pm on Saturday, and the rain was due to stop at 4pm. Due to the typically British wet weather all of the demonstrations had been cancelled in between all of the races for the day, bringing the Whitsun Trophy race forward by 30 minutes, this ensured that it would be a wet race. Having never driven the Lola T70 MKII in the wet, Mike Whitaker took a minor spin on the warm up lap, once round to the grid the team quickly removed all of the grass cuttings from the car, in preparation for the race. Mike lost a few places at the beginning, but by the end of the first lap, Mike was back in Pole position, holding it for the majority of the race. Mike held off a couple of brave moves made by Rob Huff going into the chicane. A few minutes later the rain was coming down harder and a number of competitors had spins and came off, this included a minor off for Mike, which put him down to 3rd, but coming back on and pushing harder he regained a second and got in front of Tiff Needell, and shortened the gap between himself and Rob Huff, but unfortunately the checkered flag came down before he had a chance to regain Pole. An incredible event for Mike in his Lola T70 MKII, Qualifying 1 / 28 and Race 2 / 25 with fastest race lap time of 1:51.891
