Spa 6 Hours 2017
An exciting weekend for Complete Motorsport Solutions at the Spa 6 Hours 2017.
The team took James Claridges Lotus Elan and Ian Simmonds Jaguar E-Type. James shared his Elan with Gonçalo Gomes in the Spa 6 hours and Ian raced his E-Type in the supporting race - Jaguar Classic Challenge.
Ian Qualified 22nd / 32 with a best time of 3:40.086 in the wet, and 4th in class. His race was on the Sunday with a day of rest on Saturday, he finished 27th out of 31 cars on the Sunday and dramatically improved on his time to end with a best time of 3:10.476 (Dry weather).
James and Gonçalo qualified an epic 56th out of 115 cars in the Spa Six Hour Qualifying, the damp conditions suited Gonçalo, and hoping for a wet race to improve upon there best time of 3:06.383.
Unfortunately Gonçalo's hopes of a wet race were not given, instead a light shower fell 30 mins before the race started and by the beginning of the race the track had dried and the sun was out!
James began the shortened race (now only 5 hours), and within the first couple of laps came in with a mechanical issue which the team resolved without losing to much time but putting the pair back to 113th, once out on track again James began to retake lost places, and before the duo swapped drivers James got the car down to 94th / 113. Gonçalo got in and again continued to make up spaces and improve on the pairs best time, Gonçalo stopped to refuel, and went back out again, and after a couple of laps unexpectedly the Elan started to get a mechanical Engine problem, bringing the car back to the pits the team tried to get the car back out but was unsuccessful.
After an exhilarating but challenging race James Claridge and Gonçalo Gomes finished 94th / 113 with an improved best time of 3:02.741.
